Definition

モチーフとは、芸術、文学、音楽、デザインなどで繰り返し現れるパターンやテーマ、アイディアのことです。装飾では、反復される図形やシンボルも指します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に美術や文学、音楽の分野で使われます。'motive'（動機）とは意味が異なります。フォーマルな場面でよく用いられます。
