蚊（か）

Definition

人や動物の血を吸うために刺す、小さな飛ぶ虫。刺されるとかゆくなり、時に病気を運ぶこともある。

「蚊」は単数・複数とも同じ。日常会話・科学的文脈どちらでも使う。『蚊に刺される』『蚊が病気を運ぶ』『蚊の群れ』などの表現に使われる。

Mosquitoes bite people at night.

夜になると**蚊**が人を刺します。

There are many mosquitoes near the river.

川のそばにはたくさんの**蚊**がいます。

Mosquitoes can spread diseases like malaria.
