他人や物事を巧妙または不正に操作・コントロールすること。また、手先の技術で何かを扱うことも指す。

多くの場合、ネガティブなニュアンス（例：『emotional manipulation』『data manipulation』）で使われます。医療や手作業のような中立的シーンでは「手技」「操作」と表現されます。「管理」や「取り扱い」とは異なります。
