'Mandate'는 정부나 기관이 공식적으로 내리는 명령이나 권한, 또는 어떤 일을 수행하라고 주어지는 위임을 의미한다.

공식적, 제도적 상황에서 많이 사용된다. 'government mandate', 'clear mandate'와 함께 쓰이며, 동사 'mandate'는 공식적으로 명령하다라는 뜻이다.
