メイドは、他人の家で掃除や家事をする仕事をしている女性のことです。昔の表現では、若く未婚の女性も指します。

一般的に、ホテルや家庭で掃除をする女性に使われます。現代日本語では「ハウスキーパー」や「クリーナー」がより中立的です。文学では未婚女性の意味もあります。
