判事は主に軽微な事件や行政案件、事件の初期段階を担当する下級裁判所の裁判官です。

「magistrate」は法律用語で正式な呼び方です。すべての裁判官がmagistrateではなく、主に軽微な事件など限定された権限に使われます。
