危険や異常を警戒して見張る人、または周囲を広く見渡せる場所のこと。

「見張り」は人にも場所にも使われます。「on the lookout」で「警戒している」という表現になります。景色が良い場所にも使われます。犯罪の場面では警察などを警戒する役割を指します。
