ユリは大きくて美しい花で、ラッパ型の形をしており、白やピンク、オレンジ、黄色などがあり、良い香りが特徴です。

多くの場合複数形（ユリ）が使われます。西洋文化では純粋、葬儀、イースターを連想させます。「スイレン」（water lilies）や「ワスレグサ」（daylily）とは異なる花なので注意しましょう。
