"lightning" in Japanese

稲妻雷（いなずま）

Definition

嵐の時に空に現れる明るい電気の閃光。とても速く起こり、しばしば雷鳴が続きます。

一般的に数えられない名詞として使います：『稲妻がたくさんあった』。一度の閃光を言いたい時は『一閃の稲妻』など。『lightening』（軽くする）と混同しないよう注意。

We saw lightning in the sky last night.

昨夜、空に**稲妻**が見えました。

The lightning was very bright.

**稲妻**はとても明るかったです。

After the lightning, we heard thunder.

**稲妻**のあと、雷の音がしました。

That storm had so much lightning that I couldn't sleep.
