「liable」とは、法律上の責任があることや、何か（多くは好ましくないこと）をしやすい・なりやすいことを表します。

法的・フォーマルな場面でよく使われます：「be liable for damages（損害賠償責任がある）」、「hold someone liable（責任を問う）」など。日常会話では『liable to～』で「～しがち」の意味になることも。『reliable（信頼できる）』とは意味が異なります。
