公使館は、在外公館の一つで、大使館より格下の外交任務機関や、その職員を指します。

やや古風で公式な表現で、現在では多くの場合「大使館」が使われます。「legation」は歴史的・外交的な文脈で登場します。「delegation（使節団）」とは異なります。
