特定のテーマについて聴衆に向けて行われる正式な話、特に大学の授業。また、人を叱ったり説教したりする長い話にも使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「講義」は大学の授業や正式な講演に使います。「説教」は人を叱ったり諭す意味で使われます。動詞「lecture」は「説教する」と訳され、やや否定的なニュアンスがあります。
