Definition

物や人を丁寧に特定の場所に置いたり、横たえたりすること。また、鳥が卵を産む時にも使います。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

'lie'（横たわる）と混同しやすい。'lay'は目的語が必要（例: 'lay the book'）。日常では『lay eggs』『lay down』などで使われる。過去形は 'laid'。
