'Laid' é o passado e o particípio passado de 'lay'. Significa colocar algo em algum lugar com cuidado ou, no caso das aves, botar ovos.

Não confunda 'lay' com 'lie'. 'Lay' normalmente pede objeto: você coloca alguma coisa em algum lugar. Combinações comuns: 'laid the book on the table', 'laid the baby in bed', 'laid eggs'. 'Laid-back' é um adjetivo separado, com outro sentido.
