Definition

誰かの注意を引くために手や物でドアや表面を叩いて音を出すこと。また、何かに何度も当たることも指します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

最もよくドアを叩く時に使われます：「someone is knocking at/on the door」。「keep knocking」や「knocking against」は繰り返し当たる場合に使います。「叩く」よりも音や繰り返しのイメージが強いです。

誰かがドアを**ノックしています**。

The branch kept knocking against the window.

枝がずっと窓に**当たっていました**。

He is knocking on the table with his fingers.
