やかんは、水を沸かすためのふた付きの取っ手や注ぎ口がある容器で、特にお茶やコーヒー用のお湯を沸かす際に使います。

「やかん」は主にお湯を沸かすために使われ、「ポット」（調理用の鍋）とは区別します。イギリス英語の 'put the kettle on' はお茶用のお湯を沸かす意味です。
