特に船や飛行機などの乗り物から物を投げ捨てること。また、不要になったものを手放す場合にも使われます。

「jettison」は主に専門的・フォーマルな場面（船やビジネスなど）で使われます。日常会話では「捨てる」「処分する」の方が一般的です。
