Definition

这是 'invent' 的过去式。表示首次创造出新的东西，比如机器或想法，也可以表示编造并不真实的故事或借口。

Usage Notes (Chinese (Simplified))

既可用于真实发明，如 'invented a device'，也可用于编造故事，如 'invented an excuse'。不要和 'discover' 混淆：'invent' 是创造出原本没有的东西，'discover' 是发现本来就存在的东西。日常口语里，'He invented that' 常表示“那是他瞎编的”。
