中斷是指某件事突然停止或打斷正在進行的活動或談話。可以是短暫的，也可以是長時間的，通常是有人或某事導致暫時中止。

“interruption”偏正式，常與 'constant interruption'（持續中斷）、'unexpected interruption'（意外中斷）、'brief interruption'（短暫打斷）搭配。可指人（打斷對話）也可指物（如停電）。不要與“disruption”（嚴重幹擾）混淆。
