মূলত মানুষকে বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়, তবে প্রাণীদের ক্ষেত্রেও ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। 'city inhabitants', 'local inhabitants', 'permanent inhabitants'—এই ধরনের বাক্যে বেশি দেখা যায়। 'citizens' শব্দের সঙ্গে গুলিয়ে ফেলবেন না।
