まもなく起こると予想されること、特に悪いことや心配されることに使われます。

フォーマルや深刻な場面で使われます。悪いことや避けたい事柄（例：'impending storm','impending doom'）によく使います。良いことにはほとんど使いません。必ず起こる予定の出来事の前に付きます。
