仮説とは、実験や調査によって検証される予定の考えや説明で、主に科学の分野で用いられます。

主に科学や学術の場面で使われます。'hypothesis を検証する'、'hypothesis を立てる'、'hypothesis に基づいて'の形でよく出ます。'theory'（理論）とは異なり仮説はまだ十分に証明されていません。

The scientist made a hypothesis about the results of the experiment.
