'corporate hierarchy', 'social hierarchy' ইত্যাদি অফিস, সমাজ বা জীববৈচিত্র্যে ব্যবহৃত হয়। এটি সাধারণত কমান্ড বা কর্তৃত্বের স্পষ্ট স্তর বোঝায়। 'flat hierarchy' মানে কম স্তর।
