冬眠

Definition

一部の動物が冬にエネルギーを節約し、寒さをしのぐために深く眠る状態。長い間活動しない状態や休眠も指すことがある。

主に科学や教育の場面で使われます。動物の冬の行動以外にも、活動休止や停滞の比喩（'economic hibernation' など）としても使われます。普通の睡眠や短い昼寝には使いません。

Bears go into hibernation during the cold winter months.

クマは寒い冬の間、**冬眠**に入る。
