Definition

誰かが亡くなったときに財産や地位、称号を受け継ぐ人のこと。多くの場合、家族内の人物を指します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

法律や日常の会話で使います。「heir apparent」（法定推定相続人）や「heir presumptive」（推定相続人）はより専門的。伝統など物以外も「後継者」と呼べます。
