ハーパーはハープという大きな弦楽器を演奏する人のこと。通常は「ハーピスト」と言うが、文学的・歴史的な場面や伝統音楽で使われることが多い。

現代の日本語や英語では『ハーピスト』の方が一般的です。『ハーパー』は物語や伝統、詩的な文脈で使われます。姓や名として使われるときは別の意味になります。
