Definition

口や喉をきれいにしたり、痛みを和らげたりするために、液体を喉の奥で音を立てながら動かすこと。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

医療や歯科でよく使う。「塩水やうがい薬でうがいする」など。飲み込まず、特有の音がする動作。

Examples

Always gargle with warm salt water if your throat is sore.

喉が痛いときは必ずぬるま湯の塩水で**うがいして**ください。
