ギャンブルするとは、お金をかけてゲームやレースなど、結果が不確かなことに挑戦することです。また、不確実なことにリスクをとる意味もあります。

直接的にも比喩的にも使われます。「gamble on something」「gamble away money」「a gamble」などの形がよく登場します。「bet」は単純な賭けですが、「gamble」はもっと大きなリスクや無謀さを示します。
