「Gage」是個古老且正式的詞,指用來作為履行承諾或債務擔保的物品,類似於抵押品。現代英語極少用,僅見於歷史或法律語境。

極為正式且古老,僅見於歷史文獻、法律文件或像“throw down the gage”(挑戰)這種片語中。不要與“gauge”(量測)混淆。
