“Gage”是一个古老、正式的词，意思是作为履行承诺或债务的担保物，类似于抵押品。现代英语中极少使用，只出现在历史或法律背景下。

极其正式和古老，只会出现在历史文献、法律文件或特定短语“throw down the gage”（下战书）中。不要与“gauge”（测量）混淆。
