“Gage”是一个古老、正式的词,意思是作为履行承诺或债务的担保物,类似于抵押品。现代英语中极少使用,只出现在历史或法律背景下。

极其正式和古老,只会出现在历史文献、法律文件或特定短语“throw down the gage”(下战书)中。不要与“gauge”(测量)混淆。
