もっと離れた場所や後の時間、より高い程度を表します。形式的な場面で「追加」の意味でもよく使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

'farther'は物理的な距離に使われることが多いですが、'further'は「further discussion」「further information」など抽象的な場面でよく使われます。'until further notice' や 'for further details' のような定型句にもよく出ます。
