フロンティアとは、国と国の間の国境や、科学や技術分野などでまだ知られていない・未開拓の領域のこと。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

物理的な国境にも、研究や技術の「最先端」にも使います。「the frontiers of science」は「科学の最前線」と訳されます。日常よりは少しフォーマルな表現です。
