Definition

押したり広げたりして物を平らにすること。また、力や量、程度を減らす意味でも使われる。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

物理的な物（生地、箱、草など）に最もよく使われますが、比喩的にも使われます（例：'flatten the curve'）。'flattened'（平らになった）は形容詞なので注意。
