Definition

किसी चीज़ को ध्यान से देखना, जांचना या पढ़ना ताकि उसे समझा जा सके, उसका मूल्यांकन किया जा सके या उसमें समस्या ढूँढी जा सके। इसका प्रयोग वस्तुओं, लोगों, दस्तावेज़ों, सबूतों या विचारों के लिए होता है।

Usage Notes (Hindi)

यह 'look at' से अधिक औपचारिक है और इसमें ध्यान से जांचने का भाव होता है। आम प्रयोग हैं: 'examine a patient', 'examine the evidence', 'examine a document' और 'examine how/why...'. ब्रिटिश अंग्रेज़ी में 'be examined' का अर्थ औपचारिक परीक्षा देना भी हो सकता है, लेकिन मुख्य अर्थ सावधानी से जांचना या अध्ययन करना है।
