A véspera de algo é o dia ou a noite antes de um acontecimento importante, feriado ou ocasião especial. Usa-se muito em expressões como 'Christmas Eve' ou 'on the eve of the election'.

Costuma ser mais formal do que 'the day before', especialmente em notícias ou textos: 'on the eve of the summit'. Em nomes de festividades, 'eve' é fixo: 'New Year's Eve', 'Christmas Eve'. Em alguns contextos, pode referir-se ao dia anterior inteiro, e não apenas à noite.
