Definition

お互いを強く嫌ったり争ったりする人や国、集団。実際の争い以外にも、強い反感を持つ相手に対しても使います。

『enemy』の複数形。戦争、政治、スポーツ、人間関係などでよく使います。「make enemies（敵を作る）」「old enemies（宿敵）」「sworn enemies（不倶戴天の敵）」などの表現もあります。「opponent」や「rival」より強い敵対心を含みます。

The two countries were enemies for many years.
