Definition

予期せず何かや誰かに出会ったり、問題や困難などを経験したりすること。

人に会う場合は堅い表現ですが、問題や困難と一緒によく使われます（例: '困難に遭遇した'）。日常会話ではあまり使われず、書き言葉やフォーマルな場面で多いです。

She encountered a problem with her computer.
