伯爵はイギリスの貴族の称号で、世襲されます。ヨーロッパの他国で使われる「カウント」に相当する身分です。

現代の日常会話ではなく、歴史や王室などフォーマルな場面で使用されます。「the Earl of ～」のように地名とともに用いられることが多いです。
