「dying」は死にかけている、または間もなく終わりそうな状態を表します。人や動物だけでなく、植物や物事にも使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「dying wish」「dying breath」など決まり文句としても使われ、「〜したくてたまらない」（I'm dying to ...）という比喩もある。「dyeing（染める）」と混同しないよう注意。
