두 사람이 공식적으로 무기를 사용해 결투하는 것. 또는 두 사람(혹은 팀) 간의 치열한 경쟁을 나타낼 때도 씀.

‘Duel’은 공식적ㆍ역사적 맥락(검, 권총 등 무기와 관련)에 자주 쓰임. 현대엔 치열한 일대일 경쟁 의미로도 씀. ('duel of wits' 등). 'duel with'(~와 결투), 'duel between'(사이 결투)로 씀. 단체 싸움에는 안 씀.
