ゆっくりと場所を移動したり、漂ったりすること。車のモータースポーツでは、意図的に横滑りさせる技術も指す。

風や水による動き（“drifting clouds”, “drifting boat”など）を表すことが多いです。車の場合「ドリフトする」は意図的な横滑り走行。日常会話ではカジュアルな表現。

The boat was drifting down the river.
