博士号は、大学で長期間の学習と独自の研究を経て授与される最も高い学位です。

主に学術的・正式な場面で使われます。「PhD」は博士号の一種です。「博士号を取得する」「博士号を持つ」などと表現します。医師（MD）ではなく、学位を指します。
