距離

Definition

距離とは、二つの場所や人、物のあいだにある空間の広さや長さを表します。人間関係で心の隔たりを意味することもあります。

「距離を測る」「距離を保つ」「長い距離を移動する」などの表現でよく使われます。主に物理的な間隔ですが、「心の距離」等、精神的な意味もあります。「遠い（far）」と混同しないようにしましょう。

The distance from my house to school is two kilometers.

私の家から学校までの**距離**は2キロです。

Please keep a safe distance from the fire.

火から安全な**距離**を保ってください。
