Definition

弟子とは、ある先生や指導者、特に宗教的な人物に付き従い、教えを学ぶ人のことです。特に宗教の分野でよく使われる言葉です。

主に宗教分野、とくにキリスト教で『the twelve disciples』のように使われます。一般のリーダーの熱心な支持者という意味もありますが、ややフォーマルさは落ちます。『apostles』（使徒）とは区別されます。

The teacher explained the lessons to her disciples.

先生は**弟子**たちに授業を説明しました。

イエスには十二人の**弟子**がいました。
