将来に起こると運命づけられていること、特に運命や高い力によって決まっている、避けられない出来事。

多くの場合「to」に続く動詞と共に使われる（例：'destined to win'＝勝つ運命にある）。避けられない・確実さや、ロマンチック・ドラマチックな雰囲気を表現する時に使う。'designed'（設計された）と混同しないこと。

She was destined to become a doctor.

彼女は医者になる**運命づけられていた**。

It seems this meeting was destined to happen.
