何も希望が持てず、状況が良くならないと感じる強い絶望の気持ち。物事が改善しないという思い込みから生じる心の状態。

主に深刻な場面で使われ、『絶望の中で』『絶望感』『絶望する』などの形が一般的。通常の悲しみや失望よりもはるかに強い意味合いになる。
