うつ病は、深い悲しみや無気力が長く続く深刻な心の病気です。また、経済の不況や土地のくぼみを指すこともあります。

日常会話では主に心の病気を指します。一時的な落ち込みや気分の上下には使いません。'臨床的うつ病'、'うつ病に苦しむ'などの表現があります。
