対立する意見を正式または組織的に話し合うこと、または何かを決める前にじっくり考えること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にフォーマルな討論や議論、ディベート大会などで使われます。決断を迷っている時にも使えます（'debating whether to…'）。カジュアルな喧嘩には『口論する』を。
