損害賠償

Definition

裁判所が損害や損失の補償として支払いを命じるお金。主に法律用語で使われ、「damage」とは意味が異なる。

『損害賠償』はほとんどが法的・正式な場面で使われる名詞で、『damage』（損害）とは違う意味。『損害賠償を支払う』『損害賠償を求める』などの表現でよく使う。契約違反の場合は『契約違反による損害賠償』などと表す。

The company had to pay damages to the customer.
