「カップル」は、恋愛関係にある2人のことを指します。また、少人数（通常は2人や2つ）のグループや物事を指す場合もあります。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

最もよく使われるのは恋人や夫婦。'married couples'や'young couples'のように使う。口語で“a couple of”は、必ずしも2つとは限らず「いくつか」という意味にもなるので注意。
